Brent Local Authority while acting on budget constrains have closed Barham Park library in the grounds of lovely parkland. The building and parkland is held under charitable trust 302931. Brent LA trustees and building use required conform aims objectives trust.
We Care Foundation has been established to propose that the Trustees of Barham Park agree for the buildings to be leased by the proposed school and that while community access to the buildings during school operational hours would not be possible, the community could access educational facilities after school, in the evenings, weekends and during holidays.
It is further suggested that Brent Local Authority agree for the appointment of community representation to the Board of the Barham Park Trust
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
A. 10 Fold increase rate diagnosis autism (10 years ago 1 in 1000 diagnosed now less than 1 in 100). There has not been incremental increase in specialist educational provision.
B. Funding over years as improved access to education for people with a physical disability, but less funding has been distribute to people with only learning disability.
C. Improve Community Education and access to learning opportunities for both young people, adults and mature students.
D. Lack community cohesion in Brent as nationally publicised Brent Library closure campaign, together with Legal Judicial Review resulted in community disatisfied and minority groups such as those with specialist educational needs marginalized. Library closures resulted 50% reducation study space for pupil studying exams
E. Significant increase in London birth rate resulted inadequate number school places to meet anticipated demand in coming years.
F. London Councils suggested use library buildings as potential schools
Steps to get it done:
We Care Foundation submitted application to DFE in 2011 to establish Free School in Brent. The initial application did not proceed at time Brent LA not willing to agree to support the proposal.
However Brent Local Authority do have a problem in placing children with an ASD diagnosis as a high proportion currently attend out of Borough schools such as Centre Academy Battersea, Hillingdon Manor Hillingdon and Tree House Muswell Hill. Brent needs a wider range of provision for children with Special Educational Needs.
Part of proposal to give back community in parkland Barham Park install a London Bus as a library for 1-5 years as an example:
