At Aspens, we believe we all deserve the chance to live life to its full potential. We operate all over the south east of England to provide highly personalised care and support to children, young
people and adults with a range of disabilities, complex needs and autism. Working with them and their families, we aspire to
enable them to learn new skills and live life to the full.
Our Cornford Lane site, in Pembury Village, Kent is situated in over hundred acres of beautiful countryside and provides Residential, Supported Living and Day Services for adults.
Acorns, our Day Services at Cornford Lane, is attended by the people we support in our residential and supported living services as well as people living within the local communities or at home with their parents.
Alongside a variety of activities and educational programmes, it offers a horticulture programme. An essential part of our horticultural programme is to provide the people we support with the opportunity to be involved in the day to day care of a variety of animals. By learning about and working with animals gives them the opportunity to learn about themselves and others at the same time, building trust, resilience and confidence, something that we are passionate about as we wish all in our care to live life to its full potential. Animals also allow for the development of the understanding of non-verbal communication, a vital skill for those with autism and learning disabilities.
Our four donkeys play a major role in this, by moving them to an accessible stable closer to the nucleus of our site it will ensure that the benefits these beautiful animals give to the people in our care can be enjoyed by all, it will also allow residents the independence to visit the donkeys by themselves, helping to build their confidence.
