I would like to create a forest school environment at the rear of our nursery school in the outdoor space we have

We would like to create a local forest school - Forest School is a child-centred learning process, providing learner inspired, hands-on experiences in the natural environment. It's creative and can increase a child's confidence as they problem-solve and learn to manage risks. Forest School encourages children to explore the natural environment and learn in it, forest School helps children to grow in confidence as a result of the freedom, time and space they are given in their learning. This allows them to demonstrate independence at each individual child's rate, This will be great additional service that we can offer the children in our community that do not have the opportunities to explore the natural environment.

What we'll deliver:

  • Installing Trees
  • Creating an allotment
  • Ground Works

Why it's a great idea:

Forest school will provide children with additional needs the Multi sensory environment they require, its ethos promotes self esteem creativity and independence to children, it also promotes social skills which a lot of children are lacking due to the pandemic. We plan to create an allotment where the children can grow their own vegetables which will be used by our chef in their meals and learn the process of gardening their own fruit and vegetables. In turn this will create more jobs in the nursery as well as apprenticeships.

Steps to get it done:

  • Opening the forest school to our children and watching them enjoy their new space
