With the help of CleanUpUK I've been organizing a first event that will see people from the neighbourhood gathering together on a Saturday for a couple of hours (from 11 am to 1 pm) to litter pick and remove fly tipping for a cleaner neighbourhood. The objective is to create a stronger sense of community between the people living in the area and safeguard the space around us by taking care of it and showing that we care. The issue with rubbish has got worst in the year and I've been feeling the necessity to do something to help and improve the area I live with. The money will provide the funds to buy the tools required for the events: - litter picks - bin bags - bin bags holder - High visibility jackets - refreshments for the volunteers Going forward with the money raised I would like to help the neighbours more in need to manage and take care of their house fronts: fences falling apart, overgrowing gardens, gardens with clutter....
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
I believe that the sense of community nowadays in certain parts of the area is feeling weaker. With the changes that occurred in the nearest areas (Hackney) in the last years, in terms of gentrification, has seen as a result of it a change in the residents of the area. Several families, in the years, for one reason or the other, had to move away and this has created a hole within a community that used to live strong and connected. This is the feedback that I got from my neighbours while I was working on the clean up project.
