Allendale Community Projects is an organisation to help the community in combatting isolation and loneliness. With your help, we can refit a local unit at Shearway Business Park and turn it into 'Dirty Workshop' a creative art organisation where members around the local area can arrive and socialise, ranging from small to large groups. Our aim is to work with the community and shape Allendale Community Project's current outreach work into a calm atmosphere of well-being and social gatherings with an open approach to assist those with self-help and to aid them in regaining their confidence and helping to improve their mental health since the Covid pandemic in 2020/2021. Our main aim, along with assisting our community with expert crafting guidance and support is overcoming the isolation issues people have faced in the last 2 years.

What we'll deliver:

  • Turn an empty industrial unit into a multipurpose workshop
  • Deliver daily projects for the community
  • Install an organised office and admin space
  • Make our amenities accessible for the community
  • Furnish lounge space
  • Organise regular public events for our community
  • Ensure there is a safe and secure access to the building to all members of the community

Why it's a great idea:

Give the community a place to join together and make new friendships while our volunteers befriend and assist in their mental wellbeing. We have already established a network between the local churches and other community networks, with the intention of supplying them with pre-cut materials and a volunteer to run a small shed workshop, which in turn will help beautify the local community areas with the projects that the small sheds create. The main benefits are giving mental support and friendship which is greatly improving the health and wellbeing of the people in our community. Giving them a place other than their home to meet friendly volunteers to chat and collaborate, which is giving them a sense of achievement and accomplishment. That brightens up their day and their week.

Steps to get it done:

  • Renting industrial unit
  • Collect recyclable resources to build workshop
  • Fitting out the unit for multi workshops
  • Open day with private backers invited
  • Running classes and sessions for the community

We would like to have a space to run a repair shop in conjunction with "Folkestone repairs together" here we will be taking broken electronics, clothing, bikes, and furniture. We intend to restore them or upcycle instead of them going to a landfill or Maidstone furnace power station.
