There are thousands of negatives and Photographs that span several decades of Barden High School's existence. Our project aims to digitise and archive those photos/negatives so they are preserved.
Spanning 5 decades, Barden High School educated thousands of young people in Burnley. Throughout that time pivotal moments in the lives of countless young people were captured on film. these photographs exist but are now in danger of decaying and being lost in time. Our project aims to digitise these negatives and photographs so that they can be preserved for History. These are not just precious memories but this really is a collection of national importance as it gives a very unique view of British History. Once we have digitised this archive we can do many wonderful things: Share the pictures with former students and family members and reawaken long forgotten precious memories. Tell the story of Burnley and the people who lived and worked to build this proud town. Educate the young people of today, about their heritage & what makes this town so special. None of these wonderful things will be possible without first saving this precious collection of photos.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Photographs are such a powerful way of telling a story. Digitising and classifying this archive of photographs will enable thousands of people to share the story of their lives. Collectively, it will tell the story of Burnley and this story will contribute to the History of modern Britain. Without these photographs this will not be possible. We want to build an archive so that it is possible for individuals and groups to request access and start telling these wonderful stories. In addition we hope to bring the community together online, via a dedicated website and in person through a launch event for the public.
