Digital Art & Animation SEND Sessions started fundraising!1 year ago
Working with children who have Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities, a digital artist will lead sessions teaching individuals how to use software to create art & short animations.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
The project will be aimed at children/young persons who are at risk of social exclusion, isolation and loneliness, due to being out of an education placement because of their SEND. The individuals should have a keen interest in using tablets, digital art or animating. An artist will lead a block of 10 x 1 hour weekly sessions, where the individuals will receive a funded app “Pro Create” on their tablets. They will have access to tablet pencils to enable them to complete the project. Individuals will learn how to use the features of the application to create digital art, as well as short animations. A 10 minute break, with funded snack & drink will also be included. Parents will be encouraged to stay due to safeguarding.

Why it's a great idea:
The individuals to whom the project is aimed at are at risk of social exclusion, loneliness, depression and isolation. The weekly sessions channel in on their “special interest” which will encourage them to be in a social environment with like minded individuals, promoting self esteem, confidence, social skills & independence. They will be influenced by art and have the opportunity to explore different art styles, learn about different mediums & receive high quality teaching in digital arts - all of which they can transform into short animations, which they can share with their family, friends and social media. This will give these individuals a sense of pride. Individuals will discover how art can be an effective way of expressing how they are feeling and will allow their imagination to run free in a safe, explorative way. The project will benefit the SEND community directly.

VolunteerJust Like Me CIC has been set up to aid children and young people with Special Needs or/and Disabilities in times of crisis.
As a parent of a autistic/PDA 10 year old boy, I understand how frustrating it is to find suitable activities for your child and their needs. There seems to be lots of "play centres", but nothing that really zones in on their interests.
My son developed a special interest in animation, he has spent the whole time whilst awaiting school placement (12 months) drawing & animating on his iPad, After speaking to other parents, this seems to be a common special interest.
Myself and my son, Jim, decided to set up a not for profit organisation, to help other children who, just like him, aren't able to access services or a social setting that's appealing to them.
