DH Drama Co. is a local community project, bringing children between the ages of 7-16 together to engage and express themselves through drama. Our main aims are simple: provide an affordable-for-all activity for local children, help them to grow and build friendships through drama and theatre and discourage anti-social behaviour by offering an alternative activity. As well as working together to put on a stage production, the children will learn new skills and build confidence through improvisation and movement work. The group will also provide places for those who don't wish to act - such as helping to design sets or serving as stage hands.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
When DH Drama Co. was just an idea, I asked a group of local children if they'd be interested in joining a drama club. As soon as I'd said it, I was inundated with shouts of "YES!!". The children seemed so keen and excited that it gave me the fire to make it a reality. These children are so eager to participate and be a part of the community and I believe it's massively important to foster that community spirit and create opportunities for them to come together. Drama and theatre isn't just fun, it can give these children skills which will be invaluable in later life whilst bringing them together with those around them. Keeping the group low cost means that everyone has a chance to make use of the club and feel the benefits of being a member.
Steps to get it done:
As well as creating a fun, supportive and stimulating group for the children in the local area, DH Drama Co. will also create opportunities to bring the wider community together! Parents, relatives and locals will be welcomed as volunteers to help with things such as chaperoning trips, guiding rehearsals and helping on show nights. We are willing to hear from anyone who thinks that they could help the club in any way and are looking forward to see different members of the community coming together. (All adults will be DBS checked before being allowed to volunteer)
