To deliver ongoing garment industry skills workshops for local women and youth in the community of Dagenham giving flexible learning. To contribute bringing back garment skills training in the area.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
I want to deliver practical realistic workshops teaching skills used in the garment industry throughout this project, with real outcomes. Buy machinery and tools. It will be free for young people looking for work and stay at home mums, an opportunity for working in this industry of garment making. The duration will be for 6 months 2 days a week 7.5 hours a day, total of 15 hours. The project will consist of design developing, pattern block making, fabric cutting and manufacturing garments. This will be an opportunity for learning various techniques and finishes to produce garments to a high quality standard. Learners can use the skills for both employment or to set up their own business within the local area. We will support with business development were to look for these opportunities and contacts. Teaching the skills will not only boost their confident but allow them to be employable with many options of job roles available within this shortage skilled industry.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
This project is great because it will not only create workers with skills to find great jobs needing their skills, but encourage and empower individuals to start their own businesses too in the area which in result will benefit the local economy. There is also a real shortage of skills gap in this area of work and we wish to contribute to filling that passionately through offering hands on vocational learning and employment opportunities.
Steps to get it done:
Increase the chances of learners finding work or building their own business in the garment industry with this project. Bring awareness of this beautiful creative fashion industry and learn about sustainability, how garment are made and positive impact making it in the UK. Having creative projects in the clothing industry available, embedding skills, will impact the local area and attract more individuals to learn the skill for work and create a new workforce of likeminded people and be an injection of a vibrant buzzing area, as well as bring in more creative businesses and inspire the young generation to carve career paths in this area ready to work in the industry.
