Medway Valley Countryside Partnership is a non-profit environmental organisation based in Maidstone, Kent. We work with members of the public of all ages and support over 40 volunteers. We work on habitat restoration projects across Maidstone, Tonbridge and Malling. We aim to Create, Sustain and Enhance Kent’s Landscape & its wildlife and to Develop, Manage and Support community-based environmental initiatives and Encourage and Enhance greater access in the outdoors and the corresponding health benefits. At times when carrying out conservation projects and events we work in remote locations which can be hard to access or be away from public roads, towns, or villages. We are raising funds to purchase a fully automatic defibrillator for adult or paediatric use which our team can carry and may prove lifesaving during our work should any of our volunteers, staff or members of the public experience cardiac arrest.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Medway Valley Countryside Partnership having a defibrillator could be the difference between life and death for our volunteers, staff and members of the public. According to the British Heart Foundation there are 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK each year and there are around 7.6 million people living with a heart or circulatory disease in the UK: 4 million men and 3.6 million women. Around 1.4 million people alive in the UK today have survived a heart attack. Having a defibrillator close by and accessible when someone is experiencing cardiac arrest has a significant increase on their chances of survival, if used within the first 3-5 minutes of collapsing the survival rate can be up to 70%. However it is estimated that every minute without defibrillation decreases the chances of a person's survival by 10% and without CPR and early defibrillation only 5% of people who experience cardiac arrest are expected to survive.
