Supporting projects, big and small, which help make Hull a better place to live, work and play.
A fun and theatrical, but still practical, library taxi that takes to the streets to coincide with literary events and immerse tourists in Hull culture from the moment they arrive in the city.
The specially designed (outside and in) cab would contain some books/reading material of local importance and some for swapping/donations.
This is a way to have one-to-one conversations about culture and share the exciting events in the city, or take a nice quiet ride home and have a read of a book the driver has recommended. Taxi drivers talk to a lot of people.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Provides memorable and positive first impressions and is a lot of fun. In addition, the culture cab stimulates people's minds around creativity, shares culture, shares information, inspires reading and literacy, and shares city of culture information with people who are actively seeking such an experience... taxi drivers talk to lots of people and are often the first people that visitors engage with.
There is a wealth of culture on offer in the city and this original approach to communicating with visitors will ensure that they are in no doubt about where to find it. The cab will support and enhance the existing promotional activities that those putting on events provide and create a really positive feeling around this city's cultural ambitions and abilities. Encouraging reading, increasing arts engagement, unique ways of communicating with the public and the development of literacy skills are all great reasons why the culture cab should be a reality.
