To repurpose an empty building on the Former High Street of "Northdown Road" into a holistic Nutrition, Well-Being & Cookery School. The School to open by Quarter 4, 2022. The target group are local residents. Membership would be open to adults & children. The Food Syllabus & Well-Being Programme would mirror the diverse & multi-cultural community; through the recruitment of staff & volunteers from local residents. The recruitment would ensure an inclusive and global aura at the School. The School would tackle climate change & food poverty through the distribution of food waste across Thanet. Social isolation & loneliness would be reduced through face to face & digital social cookery lessons. The programme would include free, subsidised and fee paying lectures & talks on food nutrition, teach life & business skills to Level 3 leading to employment. The final element, an arts & nature based well-being programme to encourage lifelong learning improving wellness & well-being.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Inspiration: The Location: The History: The People. Thanet has been affected by the lack of investment. The consequence is high unemployment, poverty etc. Thanet has a higher than the national average of people over 50. The School would address the health inequalities and decline in brain health through education and access to good food. Margate is also developing a reputation as a food centre. However food hygiene, the quality & variety of food is inconsistent. Food education has become a necessity. A further benefit of this School with business training would upskilling food safety, food hygiene, to expand the types of food on offer and enabling employment. School children would benefit by improving life skills & wellbeing; Low income families by learning time & financial management, thus improving household management; 50+ with social cookery lessons reducing isolation, improving brain health (declining in our 40's) and enabling new local jobs in the food industry.
