Providing Sporting opportunities for every member of the community in a friendly and fun environment I am Chris, the Secretary of Holmfirth Cricket Club and I am writing to you today to request help with the replacement of a 140 metre boundary fence. Holmfirth Cricket Club was founded in 1848, and we have been a productive club ever since. We have over 200 members including 75 junior members involved in playing in teams from Under 9s to Senior level, we are the most successful HD club in the league, since its incorporation. Our club is a key focal point of the community and has strong heritage in the area. We offer a wide range of cricket, fitness, and social interaction opportunities, that sees people from all parts of Kirklees come and enjoy sport, socialise and get involved in community activities. Our club is still growing as this year we introduced our first Women’s and Girls’ team, The fence keeps the club from the river Holme & will jeopardies our cricket if not replaced
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Our club is situated next to the fast-flowing River Holme, with one side of the cricket pitch around 6 feet away from the banking. Unfortunately, the fence we have has deteriorated to the point that there is a risk to the safety of people and players retrieving balls or training in that space. By adding a new fence, it will enable us to continue our current and offer more activities, junior tournaments and holiday clubs without an issue. It will also be safer for any young people accessing the nearby football pitches. As the fence is a key safety aspect, if we cannot get this replaced soon, there’s a risk the club will need to cease junior activities. The fence is estimated to cost £9040. The Holme Valley Parish Council, after an interview and inspection have already donated £2000 towards the new fence, however there is still a shortfall over just over £7000. We will get the fence put up as soon as we have raised the funds, which will ensure safety for many years to come.
Steps to get it done:
We are a not for profit organisation. We rely on sponsorship, subscriptions and volunteers to keep the club running. Like most clubs, we have been affected by the pandemic, however we have loyal committee members who have given their time and money to keep the club afloat during this period. The fact is - we do not have the funds for any capital spend of this size hence my appeal to you for assistance. Without the fence there is a risk of training and matches being stopped, which would be devastating for the community, and also jeopardise the future of the club.
