We would like to install an all-weather pitch in a location at school which is currently used as playground. This would mean that this area would still be used as playground along with the added ability to provide a multi-use games area. We want to keep our children active throughout the year whatever the weather. Our yard currently measures 600sq/m and there is also scope to extend further using the school grounds, an average 5 a side pitch is 500sq/m so we are lucky enough to have the option to make our pitch larger so that we can utilise more space and offer bigger facilities for our school and community. There will be easy access to the pitch using the stairs that are already in place and access via the school car park. Today children spend more time than ever inside. Active play has been left aside for watching television, playing video games, reading or using electronics such as tablets, laptops, and phones. more involved in sedentary activities rather than active play outside.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
A child's physical well-being is aided by spending more time outdoors, and their emotional and intellectual health are also improved when they spend time away from technology. No matter where they go, playing outdoor games, moving around, and spending time outside are sure to be beneficial to their health. Playing outside is great for developing physical strength, maintaining a healthy weight, and being able to recover more effectively from illness. The more time spent outdoors in childhood, the more likely they are to continue healthy exercise as they grow older. Children who are encouraged to play outside develop a positive attitude toward maintaining an active lifestyle as adults. As well as the health benefits playing sports can also teach children valuable social skills, including communication, independence, ability to work with others and can help children with a sense of belonging.
Steps to get it done:
Advice from the NHS states that children need to be active for at least 60 minutes a day. Being active also helps with mental health. Evidence shows that children and young people who are more active have more confidence, higher self-esteem, less anxiety and stress, and better social skills – attributes that can help them deal with the challenges they face in daily life. Having a positive attitude towards physical activity has also been associated with children being happier. As mentioned previously we would like to open up the school sports facilities to the community which will also deliver health benefits locally, while creating a valuable source of income. All income generated once all building costs recovered would then be reinvested in school, continually improving our sporting resources and facilities. Our School would be able to reap the rewards of leasing the pitch out of hours whilst playing a vital role in the provision of sport in the local community.
