Connecting people, ideas, and support from the crowd to make Leicester an even better place!
Our Craft Hub and studios are located on the 2nd floor of a multi use factory. There is a lift however it is up a small set of steps. due to the location of the stairs a ramp would need to be removeable and kept safe for use by our visitors. Due to the height of the stairs a ramp will have to be very long so a more expensive foldable or roll able ramp is more suited. Alongside the ramp we would like an Evac chair to safely transfer down stairs in the event of a fire As part of our accessibility improvements we would like to improve the toilet facilities. The WC needs a stud wall removing and accessible fixtures fitting to make it fully accessible. with these two improvements we will be able to open our doors to everyone regardless of ability improving the reach of our community projects.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
We work with the community bringing together people of all types to craft and raise money for local charities around Leicestershire. Our new venue is not currently wheelchair accessible and so we cannot accommodate wheelchair users. This prevents us helping a large section of our community. The addition of a ramp, accessible toilet and emergency evac chair will enable us to be fully inclusive and reach more people.
Steps to get it done:
We have two lifts in the building, a goods lift and personnel lift. unfortunately they are both up a step set of steps. We got the idea for a ramp immediately and with access being available to wheelchair users our toilet facilities are not adequate to accommodate them once inside our venue. The toilet is easily converted needing only a stud wall separating the loo from the sink area removing, a new door and standard accessibility fixtures fitting.
