To provide emergency food parcels to the most vulnerable and elderly in our communities from all background and cultures, particularly those who are self-isolating and who struggle to get to the shops
Mandela8 will: - Provide emergency food parcels to the most vulnerable and elderly in our communities, particularly from refugee/ migrant communities. - Provide creative art packs to children to ensure they have diversionary activity beyond school work. This will be done to support Liverpool City Councils coordinated response in partnership with Granby Toxteth Development Trust. We estimate we will directly reach: 2400 adults ages 18-55 3600 older people 55+ 600 children 0-12 We estimate we will reach: 600 young people 13-18 indirectly Co-ordination of the project and volunteers delivering parcels will be managed by Granby Toxteth Development Trust, Mandela8 and the wider partnership of organisations at no costs to the project as it is a time of need and we want all resources to go onto food and hygiene parcels for those most in need and creative art packs to be provided to young people in families that are supported.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Those most vulnerable aged 70+ with underlying health problems who are having to self-isolate, need to be supported as part of self isolating in terms of food supply and hygiene packs etc. This amounts to 11,000 across the city. Another 36,000 people are identified as vulnerable people and again the council are busy organising services to make sure they are catered for but they cant do this alone and need community voluntary sector support. An estimated 55,000 Liverpool families have been hit by a wave of government cutbacks to benefits and local services recent years and child poverty has continued to rise since 2015. These funds would ensure pressure is lifted from staff already stretched in Local Authority services and build morale and add valuable resources to support our most vulnerable and in need of support during isolation. They would also alleviate poverty and stress for those who have to isolate or cant shop for themselves.
