We are fundraising for a fab new park in Cornwallis Circle, Whitstable. The park has been patched up over the years and damaged equipment replaced, but the time has come for a complete re-fresh with inclusivity, creativity and adventure at the heart of the brief! Our children have been patient throughout COVID. Now we can build a park where they can run, explore, creative and make friends. Children in local primary schools will all feed ideas in to the design process and we can make this a park to be proud of; young people investing in the park will reduce vandalism in the years to come, something which has been a problem for this park. With a focus on sustainable materials and a nod to Whitstable's quirky seaside, creative feel, this is a project about which whole community can be excited about. We have the go-ahead from Canterbury City Council (the landowner) who have some monies earmarked for mending broken equipment, but a full park refit is only possible with your help!
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
A great new park will get children active again, provide a space for parents of young children to socialise (and make those parent-friends that were denied to many during lockdown) and is - vitally - free for everybody. The houses around the town centre of Whitstable have very small gardens (if any) & this space is a vital exercise area for children & adults of all ages. Improving it will increase the time people want to spend outside. The other benefit is that this park is adjacent to Whitstable High Street. By bringing visitors to a better park, it will knock on to increased spent in our town centre shops and eateries. This will be a vital part of the town's renewal post-COVID. Whitstable is famous for its independent shops and we need visitors to come for these to survive. The health, social, recreation & economic impacts of this project are clear. There will also be a strong focus on providing inclusive and creative equipment in this park, which at the moment is totally lacking.
