To enable young people in Cornish schools to record and release their own music by setting up a Cornwall Music Education Hub record label and providing professional quality recording facilities which can be moved around the county. We will work with the young people to encourage and facilitate the creation of original music through songwriting workshops (funded separately) and support (funded separately) to enable them to produce demo quality recordings. The proceeds of all sales will be returned to the young writers. We will also broker links between songwriters and musicians in different schools to establish a creative collaborate community of young artists across the county.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Cornwall is a large rural county and young people have limited access to high quality recording studios. By creating a recording studio which can be moved around the county we will be able to improve access to such facilities. By creating a record label, we will be providing an outlet for our young musicians and songwriters which will inspire and introduce them to the music industry. We have the support of several music industry partners to enhance the offer - BandLab, Sontronics, RouteNote Music Distribution. To support our record label offer, we will offer a series of free workshops in schools and community settings on: songwriting, how to add chords, melodies and rhythms to poetry, how to record a demo track, how to develop a demo track into a high quality musical template within a DAW. This will allow the young people to develop skills which they can then develop through further training in preparation for careers in the music industry.
Steps to get it done:
Sontronics have agreed a substantial discount on equipment which needs to be purchased for the music studio. The workshops will be funded separately and we have already raised £10,000 towards this element of our work from local arts organisation, FEAST.
