Copley Common Regeneration brings together a group of people of all ages working in unison to create a free to use eco-friendly community space including nature walks, outdoor adventure, pump track, and more. We have been working for almost two years with pioneering individuals from Bishopston Skatepark Project, Bishopston Community Council and other partners from local community groups and organisations looking to improve facilities for the health and wellbeing of the community. We have and will continue to involve the community through surveys and a large social media presence. We also hope to get the children from the schools involved in designing the track. The area will boost peoples' mental wellbeing through many forms of exercise it offers. It has been proven that all these forms of outdoor exercise improves mental health and physical wellbeing. What we'll deliver:

• Biodiversity and ecology study needed to deliver an outdoor eco-friendly hub
• Civil engineering report of the area to provide a pump track
• Planning application for the facility
• Improve health and well being of the community

Why it's a great idea:

This will be an accessible area for people of all ages to enjoy, including: easy access paths, managed woodland providing space for den building and exploring, a pump track designed aesthetically to blend in with the surrounding area, information boards about local history and wildlife. In addition, we will be developing and enhancing the biodiversity of the area: planting native trees, wildflowers, pond life and plants will create new habitats and make it a dream home for bugs, birds and wildlife. Community projects work best when they come from local people, taking into account the views of all residents'. We have already completed a full consultation with the village regarding a pump track and the results demonstrate a genuine need for a facility like this. We are now looking for local resident’s views to help guide the design for this regeneration area, to make this a thriving outdoor hub for all ages to use and enjoy whilst maintaining the cherished spaces we all love.

Steps to get it done:

• Run a community survey

• Open the area to the public
• Maintain the space over the years

So what is a pump track? A pump track is designed for all things on wheels. By combining rolling jumps with turns they are accessible for all. Teaching the basic skills of carrying momentum, balance and speed by using your arms and legs to pump your bike/board/scooter around the track. A feature that a 5-year-old can roll through can be used as a gap jump for a professional. It is vital that we preserve the environment that is already there, we are already working with local ecologists who will help survey the land and guide us in the best direction. The regeneration of this land will rebuild and reconnect the community post-lockdown. COVID-19 has of course massively affected us, along with the rest of the world and the more ways the community can bounce back, the better.
