The cafe at Theatre Porto in Whitby Park has opened. We have listened to the community and would like to implement some of their suggestions such as outdoor canopies, outdoor heating & more greenery.

The cafe at Theatre Porto has been welcomed by the community as a great new asset to Whitby Park. It provides a wonderful space to meet, eat, and be inspired by creativity. It contributes to making Ellesmere Port a great place to live and supports children and families to discover and access high quality art and culture. Much of it free of charge or subsidised so that those who face financial challenges don't miss out. Our community has told us that they would like to see the following additions 1) Outdoor canopies and heating so that dog walkers can be more comfortable and outdoor events/play can take place whatever the weather 2) More greenery - large plants, shrubs etc around the buildings perimeter 3) Our visitors love it when our artists and arts-based resources are available in the cafe to support children to take part in creative play whilst mum/dad/carer enjoy a coffee Our capital budget has run out so we need to raise more money to make these improvements for the community.

What we'll deliver:

  • Purchase and install outdoor canopy
  • Purchase and install outdoor heating (env. friendly option)
  • Purchase 10 large plants/shrubs plus planters
  • Test-run of 10 x 'creative cafe' sessions with an early years focus

Why it's a great idea:

Our project will benefit - all park users, and particularly dog walkers - children and families in Ellesmere port through free access to creative play - Residents close to Whitby Park who have requested more greenery around the venue

Steps to get it done:

  • advice sought from Parks and Gardening team
  • quotes gathered for equipment purchase
  • allocate staff time to purchase and install new equipment
  • plan and advertise the pilot of 'creative cafe' early years sessions
