Brunswick Crescent Open Space London N11 1EE making it a Community Park for EVERYONE We as a Community are incredibly concerned about isolation of the elderly in our community and want to enable and encourage them to be more involved with our community open space. We plan to encourage the whole community to get active. We plan to organise several weekend activities where the community are invited to come together to make bug hotels and bird boxes and plant two wildflower meadows in one of the two small designated area, organise a morning with the community where they collect autumn leaf fall and put into Compostable Leaf sacks and have a coffee and cake morning one sunday per month Get Dalo that help young people with learning difficulties and disabilities to use the open space more often. If the above funding is granted it will be helping with the following:- Community Education,Environment Education, Disability Education & Bio Diversity helping Barnet Council deliver their BAP.

What we'll deliver:

  • Picnic tables and benches wheelchair friendly
  • Benches and activitiy table used for board games and doubling up as a planting table
  • Protected keep fit area and a football goal with a net for younger childeren
  • Wildflower meadows bee friendly getting everyone involved with the planting including people with disabilities
  • Building Bug Hotels and Bird Boxes activity day for all the community getting everyone out and back to nature
  • Having a shelter (Gazebo) so when hot and light rain we can still use the outside space
  • Decorate the metal barrier by having a competition local children decorate the barrier

Why it's a great idea:

Beginning the Community together has so many positives. Stops isolations, brings a sense of pride and sense of belonging to the area. People will look out for eachother and feel they can be more friendly and helpful toward each other. Just a knock on a door to check Beryl at 001 house is ok or to say hello, Good Morning to each other will be more noticeable if we set up more activity days, share lunches together, book clubs, gardening sessions, keep fit sessions, wildlife experiences, a mini sports day has been suggested, I have been around to lots of the neighbours and I didn't find one person who was opposed to getting the community together and to improve the open space so it is more user friendly to people and the wildlife. Everyone is excited and subsquently we have set up a whatsapp group and email account and will soon be setting up a facebook group, but it all rests on getting the funding approved and so we can go forward with our exciting project people want to be involved

Steps to get it done:

  • Provide Benches and have them delivered
  • Provide Picnic and benches and have them delivered and fixed to the ground
  • 1 meadow being sowed directly into the ground so once plants delivered this will be actioned
  • Activitiy table with bench once delivered and fitted and secured into the ground community can start to use
  • One raised bed for meadow and 1 planter and arch once delivered together with the soil and plants these can be organised
  • Heavy Duty Gazebo once delivered community will help put it up
  • 12 x Solar lights once delivered the community will help postion them and erect them
  • Water table for birds and feeder for birds community maintains and helps towards cost of feeding birds

Disability Education encouraging all the community to mix and learn about difficulties disabled people experience and the elderly and young people may face as a community. Learn from experiences and have a greater understanding of range of how different people in communities are treated. We want to increase the amount of time the Dalo centre in Brunswick Crescent use the area and by having the improvements in the area we hope we achieve this. We as a Community are incredibly concerned about isolation of the elderly in our community and want to enable and encourage them to be more involved with the open space. At the present there are no official chairs or benches so the elderly from our community find it difficult to spend time in our open space. We plan to encourage the whole community to get active by having keep fit session by neighbours who lives in the area and are willing to give their services for free on set dates and times. Community matter and we want to be part of it.
