Our aim is to improve the lives of homeless people, raise aspiration and better outcomes through the opportunity to work with and potentially run a Coffee Beanies cart. Through our mobile coffee carts we will sell high quality coffee (and other hot/cold beverages) to the public. The coffee cart will be run and staffed by trained Beanie Baristas, a group of homeless or recently homed people. Profits made will be distributed between Coffee Beanies and the Baristas; any excess profits made by Homeless Beanies will be re-invested into the purchase of more mobile units and supporting the homeless in other practical ways. Our industry partners provide their expertise pro bono as part of their Corporate Responsibility (was CSR) for Barista masterclasses, accredited training programmes and industry days.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The objective of Coffee beanies is to: i) develop and test a new and different model to traditional support to homeless people We believe this project takes a different approach to supporting homeless people. It has been developed with and for them to give real opportunities to people in a supportive environment. The development of the project will encourage other organisations to look at homelessness and supporting homeless people in different ways, ways in which they are helping themselves. ii) to directly support homeless people through their involvement in the project We will support people who have little or no work exposure or qualifications to develop hands-on experience as well as accredited qualifications. We will be able to provide opportunities for homeless people to run their own business and develop enterprise skills – it will be a fabulous life experience - offering structure, something to get out of bed for and opportunities to actually achieve in life.
