Chance Changing Lives is a Cheshire East charity local to Crewe. We exist for the relief of poverty, homelessness and hunger. We are staffed by one employed manager and our team of amazing volunteers, supporters and donors.
Chance has two provisions: Our friendly Community Pantry is based at Coronation Crescent which provides choices of food for people in deep poverty; which is either donated, purchased or collected supermarket ‘waste’. Our members pay £3 a week for over £20 of shopping which they choose from our mini supermarket equipped with commercial freezers and fridges.
Membership is reviewed after 13 weeks, if you are still struggling you stay on for another 13 weeks. Our food provision is effectively combined with budget advice, health interventions, employment and benefit advice, counselling and links to support locally. We currently support 140+ member families representing 535 individuals and 7,200 'big shops' given a year. We are serve more people raising our capacity to 170+ member families.
Our Saturday Kitchen at Jubilee House Crewe, provides a nutritious hot meal or a takeaway each Saturday for those who are homeless, vulnerable, in poverty or isolated. We share clothing, food, tents, sleeping bags, mats, insulated cups, foil blankets, take away bags, coffee & tea, toiletries, haircuts, podiatry, advice and support. We now serve 80+ meals each week. We recently worked with the NHS to provide onsite Covid-19 vaccinations for 54 homeless service users and volunteers. We are working on adding a health clinic to our service.
