Our goal is to reduce poverty, health & diet inequalities. Chance wants to enable our 170+ struggling, local families, in deep poverty, to have free, fresh, fruit & vegetables each week. In addition to their £3 Chance shop (Worth £20+) at our Community Pantry. Our friendly volunteers will encourage people to choose more fruit and vegetables with advice & thrifty recipes. Your funding will also give fresh fruit & veggies to 80+ Homeless guests at our Saturday Kitchen. We stash healthy veg in all our meals, hidden in our meatier meals and powering our 100% veggie options. Fruit goes in puds & takeaway bags for Sunday meals. With your gift Chance will build on the work of Cheshire East Council, NHS & schools in our community, sharing free, healthier choices all year round - including school holidays - to people we know are in need. Fruit & veg are costly & considered luxury items by our members. This isn't fair. We know you'll agree that everyone has the right to healthier food.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Healthy foods are 3 times more expensive than unhealthy foods*. Chance can direct your support to local people most impacted by C-19, & poverty, we serve them already. Together we can encourage healthy choices, building on the variety in our Community Pantry with a consistent, fresh fruit and veg choice. 50% of UK adults are overweight, 5% have diabetes, a third of 5 year olds suffer tooth decay*. Chance can help reduce local diet inequalities, raise expectations & offer people in deep poverty the advantage of health boosting foods. Our community has areas of 40% child poverty.* The end of furlough & the £20 Universal Credit uplift will make it even harder for families to afford healthy choices. We can support people to be healthier & stronger with a regular, year round, fruit and veg offer. Together we can offer healthy food alternatives to local people in the greatest need, those already suffering multiple health problems & deep poverty. *CEC, Food Foundation 2021 & JRF 2021
