Such facilities would allow additional practice sessions, for current junior & senior players as well as opportunities to open up to new starters and novices. Currently we are unable to do so due to use of the pitch throughout the evenings and weekends for scheduled league games & practice sessions on the field. Having a permanent net facility would also allow for additional work to be done with our youngest recruits, e.g. All Stars & Dynamos in a safe and secure environment The nets will play a valuable part in attracting new players to the club. As a facility, it will enable us to offer opportunity for the local schools to use as an all-weather facility during the day as part of their PE curriculum. Cleckheaton CC has launched its action plan to transform Women’s & Girls’ cricket with the fundamental goal of making cricket a gender-balanced sport. We have appointed a Lead Women & Girls Coach and we are aiming to hold a series of coaching & taster sessions throughout summer.

What we'll deliver:

  • Install state-of-the art permanent cricket net facility
  • Increase participation in the community, schools, community groups
  • Increase usage from under represented groups e.g. juniors, women & girls

Why it's a great idea:

Having a net facility would allow us the opportunity to encourage children in to trying cricket, maybe for the first time, in a net facility. i.e. being able to bat, bowl and practice fielding in different environment to that of being on an open playing field. Repetitive batting or bowling practice in the nets would help improve their skills, increase their confidence but hopefully enhance their enjoyment of the game too, particularly when they get out on to the middle. This allows us to make an enhanced offer of cricket coaching to our local schools. Not just the use of a cricket field but a multi use net facility that can incorporate a number of activities for children of all ages. We would also offer the net facilities for local clubs/organisations to hire. Strengthening our community links and offering clubs that opportunity to make use of nets when they are hampered at their grounds for whatever reason.

Steps to get it done:

  • Partial funding secured through Sport England
  • Commissioning of contractors
  • Agreed project start date
  • Project completion
