An affordable summer Playscheme that brings young people, able-bodied, disabled or disadvantaged together to socialise and share activities and experiences and a range of activities.
1. One to one support for each disabled youngster. Provided by able-bodied teenage volunteers, which frees parents/carers for a little respite 2. Promote and recognise the power of peer support and positive role models and incorporate these into their interventions 3. Specific setting response to the provision of an environment that is totally inclusive. 4. Ensure activities are carried out in non-stigmatising locations 5. A youth forum and social events running monthly throughout the year, extending our support for our young people to cover their transition into adulthood and beyond. 6. Consulted and planned activities with our young people at our regular monthly Youth Forum meetings. 7. Understanding that Mental Health Matters. Disabled children and young adults face challenges from birth and we try to ensure a supportive role in their emotional needs along with staff and volunteers. 8. Paying all seasonal staff, a living wage. 9. To develop social integration.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
From humble beginnings in 1986, Pegasus has grown into a well-established community scheme, its primary objective; the provision of an annual Playscheme for disabled children and young adults aged between 8 and 21. Coincidentally this also provides a period of respite for the participant’s family and carers Individual needs of the children and young people may include: • personal care • medication • communication • mobility • sensory needs • Mental Health Needs Providing opportunities for local teenagers is life changing: • Feeling valued is energising. • Feeling like you make a difference is satisfying. • Knowing that you are part of a team is rewarding. • Each person brings his or her own experience to Pegasus. • To bring together individuals of all abilities from different races and faiths, to promote a shared sense of belonging and provide equal opportunities for people who may be excluded or disadvantaged. • To improve the quality of life for all.
Steps to get it done:
Coming back from Covid -19 is proving tough for all but for children already isolated in life the need for Pegasus is even greater. We’ve found that children with pre-existing risk factors for mental health conditions are more likely to be bullied, and the bullying can cause them to suffer long-term mental health issues. funding has never been so difficult and we really need more support. Locally and nationwide. Its tough for everyone, children with disabilities face barriers in all aspects of their life,. We break these down and give them a summer to remember Giving the Best Start in Life to our local children is what we strive to do. We operate to Best Practice, are Voluntary led and Voluntary registered with Ofsted. We have a Proven track record, receiving many Awards and Charity of the Year Status.

The mini buses are confirmed and a deposit has been made. All activities have now been booked and mostly paid for in advance. We have a full complement of 45 children and 47 teenage volunteers. We interviewed suitably qualified Staff at Easter and training day takes place on the 1st July. Every one is very excited and yesterday we received a beautiful message from a parent. Their daughter “K” who has been coming to us now for many years, when asked at college to draw her favourite thing, drew oblong shaped lines and coloured it in Yellow. If you know you know…… We know. It fills us with Pride, Pegasus and what we achieve as a voluntary led scheme. We would not have done this without your help. ❤️😎👍 AND we have to find £70,000 in total every year to do it. If anyone wishes to continue to support us please go to our website where you can make a donation direct via our wonderful funding platform Wonderful take no commissions and Pegasus will receive 💯 of your donation. Every single donation helps our local children make memories. Thank you and watch out for some amazing photos during July when Pegasus hits the roads of Kent. Give us a wave if you see us out and about. We are so grateful to each and every one of you. YOU have made a difference to so many lives. Once we start i will update you again.👀

Thank you for having such great faith in our abilities to provide 1-1 Support to our most vulnerable children and young adults. However We still have a way to go. The scheme's actual costs are £70,000 each and every year. We hope to fund the rest now through grant and trust applications. This particular crowdfunding ensures we can pay for the hire of the mini buses, allowing to get to our activities. It provides us the boost that we needed. Thank you so much 🙏 Far & Wide our pledges came in. It makes us so proud to have such support. The fundraising goes on through trust and grant applications and our own Pegasus lottery which is £2 a month direct debit. Each participant receives a dedicated number. Every month a number is drawn and the winner receives £40. There is always a winner. ❤️ If you would like to consider joining up then please get intouch with me. sue.clark3@btinternet.com We would like to thank each and everyone of you.
