Street Gym will help us develop physical activity activities for people of the Estate whilst re-purposing redundant car park space in the centre of the community. Through Street Gym we aim to begin to tackle the lack of physical activity on the Estate caused by lack of accessible resource and facilities. We aim to work with children and young people to tackle the causes and high incidence of obesity and overweight whilst providing opportunity for safe, healthy and relevant physical exercise. We also plan to use the Street Gym to engage Older residents with physical activity, developing specific programmes at the Gym. Street Gym will be accessible to all and available throughout the opening hours of the centre, offering daily, free physical activity.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The Meadow Well Estate has a lack of facilities for play and physical activity for a range of residents which contributes to the overall picture of negative outcomes in terms of health and wellbeing. Street Gym will provide facilities for the whole community to improve their general fitness and will be a catalyst for a range of wellbeing and physical activity programmes. Our aim is to redress the inequalities that result in lower life chances and life expectancies for those living on the Meadow Well Estate.
Steps to get it done:
We have already secured £8,000 of the required funding through grant support.
