Cecil Community Garden

Cecil Community Garden

Charlotte Turner By Charlotte Turner

There is a cut through next to Cecil road leading to Pelham road and the neighbours of Cecil and Balfour roads would like to turn the flower beds into a community garden growing fruit and vegetables.

Turning an alleyway into a community garden. Currently cars park there blocking the alleyway for walkers, and we would like to turn the space and flower beds into a hub for neighbours to garden, grow fruit and vegetables and share in the outdoor activity of gardening.

What we'll deliver:

  • Plant seeds to grow organic fruit and vegetables
  • Plant fruit trees for the community
  • Create a gardening space for residents to enjoy

Why it's a great idea:

It will bring our Cecil and Balfour neighbours of all all ages together, in a community project that we can all benefit from with produce grown for all to share from raspberry and blackberry bushes to potatoes, carrots, runner beans etc grown and tended to by us. I started a whatsapp group for Cecil and Balfour neighbours a couple of years ago, and we are keen to make this happen in an area of land that we all walk through daily (the cut through between Cecil and Pelham Road). We would love to turn the land into a useful, pretty space that will feed us and provide a hobby for many keen gardening neighbours and children.

Steps to get it done:

  • To grow apple trees, blackberry and raspberry bushes and vegetables including potatoes, carrots and beans

Neighbours are enthusiastic about making this happen and our only query is who owns this piece of land...
