The 900th Anniversary of the foundation of the present Cathedral building in 2018 is bringing forward a number of works and changes at the Cathedral to celebrate this anniversary. Works include a new heritage and education centre, Cathedral and community music school. Work to the Precincts will improve access, landscaping and new interpretation and way finding to enhance the space for the enjoyment of residents and visitors to the city.

A lighting scheme would form part of the ‘Peterborough 900 Project’ at Peterborough Cathedral and a bid to the Heritage Lottery Grant Programme towards funding.

Why it's a great idea:

Key objective of Peterborough Cathedral is to enhance the enjoyment of the public parts of the Peterborough Cathedral Precincts for residents and visitors to the city. This is likely to lead to more community events and evening activities of appeal to the wider community.
Peterborough has an aspiration to create the UK’s Environment Capital and the Cathedral is a key landmark in the city. Lighting the Cathedral in a sensitive yet dramatic manner is an important.

Steps to get it done:

• Cathedral and Precinct buildings aesthetic lighting •
• The following element should be given consideration in the design:
• Grounds lighting, including able to project theatrical requirements of various events and entertainments.
• Students should submit concept ideas & layouts with visualisations that can be developed to full design
