We are going to restore the bulding back to the way it was, by using local members and volunteers from within the local community. The outside of the building is going to be repainted as well as the outside space being cleaned up and flowers etc being planted. The interior is going to be also painted and a reconstruced bench will be produced. we are also going to be instaling information boards wiith relivant pictures and detailed informaton regarding the local area during WW2, We have display cabinets which will be displaying WW2 artifacts such as gas masks, ration books etc. we have great interest from local schools and a dimenta group . we also conduct local investigations on WW2 buildings and we are creating a detailed database.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The project will bring our community together, educating local school children and residents on the WW2 history of the town, and helping local dementia patients and care groups with regular vists to the shelter, easing isolaton and making new frends within our community. Also to create a space for older residents to share stories and past memories with our towns younger generation. We will also create living hstory displays and tours of the shelter, recreatng Newton Abbots WW2 past.
