LPK Learning will work with local photographer, Linda Woodard of Woodard Photography, and Crawley Museum to produce an exhibition to help record this unprecedented time in history. Crawley residents across the town will be photographed on their doorsteps along with items personal to their lockdown. After images have been captured, an exhibition of the photographs will be organised in conjunction with Crawley Museum. Community members will also be invited to share their own images for the museum's contemporary collection. This project will help to record this time in social history for future generations but, to make it happen, we need your help! Please support it if you can. Even £2 will go a long way!

What we'll deliver:

  • Capture of lockdown images by a professional photographer
  • Gathering of lockdown photos from the community
  • A photographic exhibition of residents’ lockdown experiences
  • An archive of lockdown photographs for generations to come

Why it's a great idea:

Crawley residents will be involved in helping to record this unprecedented time in history. Their story will become part of an exhibition and, by donating the photos afterwards to Crawley Museum and West Sussex Records Office, an important archive of social history for future generations. The aim is for the exhibition to represent the experiences of the diverse communities that make up Crawley. By sharing everyone’s story we aim to strengthen our community bonds by building a colourful tapestry of residents' lives and lockdown experience.

Steps to get it done:

  • Liaise with community members
  • Capture lockdown images
  • Edit images
  • Plan exhibition
  • Promote exhibition
  • Deliver exhibition
  • Donate images to Crawley Museum and West Sussex Records Office

Capturing Lockdown is a social history project being developed by LPK Learning CIC, a local community and family learning organisation, in collaboration with Linda Woodard, a local photographer and Crawley Museum. The project is built on Linda’s love of the community and her idea to capture images of Crawley residents on their doorsteps during lockdown. To find out more about Woodard Photography's community work, visit https://www.woodard-photography.co.uk/giving-back With input from LPK Learning CIC, this initial idea has grown to become a community wide project. Not only will professional photographs be taken of households but we will be asking residents to submit their own photos of what lockdown looks like to them. These photos will be collected together for Crawley Museum’s contemporary collection, helping to form a community record of this shared experience of lockdown.
