The project we want to deliver is FREE canoeing sessions to children, young people and families, in the community who live in the DY10 area of Kidderminster.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
Canoeing is something that the community does not have access to. To this end we have the opportunity to supply the need with FREE activities that all can access with a one off purchase of canoes and a trailer on our end. The canoeing project will run on Saturday's, allowing for children/ young people and families to access education and employment during the week and take part in a session / sessions during the weekend. In the long term we hope to work with other organisations to deliver qualifications that will boost the CV's of young people, this includes the leadership award and awards in sports coaching. We hope through these qualifications that we can recruit young people/volunteers to train and work with us to become leaders who we can then employ. This would help reduce unemployment, inactivity and poor mental health in the DY10 area within young people.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
COVID has been one of the biggest challenges that we as a community has faced in a long time. The number of people that we support has grown exponentially over the last year. To support as many people as possible, we need to try out new ideas to grow and spread our projects across the community. To young people, we can deliver experiences that will assist towards coaching qualifications or with general education. We believe that experiences can lead to multiple opportunities to young people. Families we understand you have been spending more time together and finding something new and adventurous that doesn't break the bank is something that you are searching for. We have expanded our remit over the COVID period to cover families, following a successful pilot at Christmas. This will be the activity for you, if you enjoy spending time with family and want to create lasting memories.
Steps to get it done:
A water licence is required for us to operate on the canal, however we have costed this with British Canoeing £200 for 10 boats. We are also in contact with the regional manager with British Canoeing to get the most support for delivering this project.
