To convert our outdoor lavatory building into a green self-sustaining entity within the school grounds.

We have an outdoor lavatory that is used heavily by our school children. the roof of the building has ample space (following a site survey) for the installation of a Solar Water Heater. In addition to this, we plan to install a living roof so the school can contribute further to cutting surrounding CO2 emissions, whilst promoting a safe habitat for wildlife to reside in. We believe that the outdoor lavatory will reduce the consumption with the water heater and will also act as an educational building for children and other stakeholders to learn from. We plan to rename the site: 'The Green Roof Lavatory' with appropriate signage and a circuit diagram displaying and informing how the water on the site is heated using solar technology. As the roof is visible via the second floor of the school site, we will be able to show our roof to prospective parents, visitors and most importantly our children.

I believe that this project is an amazing idea as it will allow stakeholders and the local community to see how a building can be designed in a way to combat climate change, whilst meeting the needs of the users and wildlife. This project will transform a site that is overlooked as a lavatory with a cold and ugly felt roof; to a green and living site which serves a greater purpose other than its default use. We believe that this will encourage the community to look at ways of how they can transform similar sites and garden spaces etc.

Situated in Tottenham; Bruce Grove Primary School has the welcomed challenge of educating children from ages 3 - 11 from diverse backgrounds and with diverse languages. We strive to give children the opportunity to reach their best potential by offering an enriched curriculum with an emphasis on allowing children to identify their strengths and weaknesses striving to improve. We believe that an holistic approach to education is key for an early start in life.
