We want young people to continue to have a space in Bromley just for them. Somewhere they can be themselves, have a safe space to socialise and feel comfortable finding out what they are good at and developing new skills. This is something JusB has done for over 13 years and want to continue to do. We are not like the typical youth centre. Based in a converted house, we give young people the chance to breathe, freedom to choose what they want to do and really get to know the staff here. This enables them to build strong trusting relationships with staff who they often rely on for support, information, advice and guidance. At risk of closure due to cuts to funding, there are young people who will struggle if this alternative space is no longer. Uniquely, it also offers free studio space for them to learn to produce music or record themselves singing and rapping. It also builds their confidence to perform in front of crowds.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
An evaluation of JusB is currently being created and we are confident it will show what we have always known; we have met our objectives to create brighter futures for young people in Bromley, by enabling them to develop a sense of self esteem and identity, reducing involvement in crime and anti-social behaviour, helping them discover and develop new skills and talents and, encourage young people to develop a sense of belonging in the community.
Steps to get it done:
Some of the existing projects we have run are Music projects Radio production Film making Talent shows Homework club Family fun days Gardening Work experience Job fairs Sexual Health Workshops and Holiday trips (including residentials)
