We have over £127k committed from grant funders for a £187k project to build a new extension onto our much loved commu ity centre. This new extension will become a 'Boxing of Excellence' and be a permanent home for thr longest running amateur boxing club in South Tyneside. We haven't been fortunate enough to have a purpose built centre, and in 1970s our Cllr Maisie Stewart secured s the former Bilton Hall Infants School that's closed and turned it into the community centre it is now. So inheriting higgledy piggdly rooms and layouts. We are working tirelessly to improve all aspects of the centre to make it work so we can continue to have a much needed facility serving low simonside and the wider community for yeara to come. We work with a host of community organisations that support our vision and passion and we now need the support from the people to help us achieve our targets and make this project happen. WE NEED YOU?!

What we'll deliver:

  • Foundations
  • Brickwork
  • Windows
  • Fire escape door
  • Floor
  • Plasterboard
  • Roof structure
  • Electrics
  • Heating link up
  • Disabled ramp access

Why it's a great idea:

Our community centre has been a place that residents and community groups have meet for almost 40s. We want and hope that it will continue for another 40s or more. The current layout and position that some of the rooms have, leaves us with unable and unle table spaces during peak times. We want to improve our facilities and make our centre the 'Boxing Of Excellence' along with Bilton Hall Boxing Club. Securing the future of auch loved centre and seeing the development of our centre will only ignite our passion and drive to bigger and better things going forward.

Steps to get it done:

  • We secured our first funding from Sport England in December 2018
  • We continued to gain support from funders and have been supported by Emily from Sported and Mark from Streetgames
  • ballinger Charitable Trust funded us
  • RankFoundation Funded Us
  • Rothley Trust funded us
  • Garfield Weston Foudnation Funded us
  • Clothworkers Foudnation funded us

Bilton Hall Boxing Club has a 37year history of being based at our community centre. The current space isn't acceptable and because the numbers of young boxers is growing year on year. We see fit to dedicate a new space built specifically for the club and other fitness groups to call their new permanent home. We have a target of 187k by April 2020.we current have secured around 130k in funding and have little way to go. But we hope that the power of the people can help us achieve our target along with future bids to funders.
