We need to upgrade our sewage system as the current system does not comply with modern standards and is detrimental to the environment

Blackmore End Village Hall is the centre of a small rural community. Over the last decades the community has lost its church, pubs, school, shop, and bus service. The effect is devastating for our community. The places where a community meets have gone and there is a danger of people becoming very isolated. Our Village Hall is the only community facility left. We hold monthly pub nights, regular quiz evenings, coffee mornings, and indoor sports events as well as many other events to bring people together. We’re are now facing a major challenge. The sewage system does not meet current standards and needs upgrading. At present it is discharging partially treated effluent into a local ditch. While such a system was seen as acceptable when the hall was built, it is now seen as environmentally damaging. There are no mains drains, so the Village Hall will have to treat its own sewage to make it fit to discharge into a local ditch. The estimated cost for doing this is £34,000

What we'll deliver:

  • An up to date environmentally safe sewage treatment plant
  • An ability to safely increase the usage of the hall.
  • Long term viability of the only remaining community facility

Why it's a great idea:

The village hall provides a village hub allowing the community to meet and become more cohesive. This ensures that loneliness and isolation are reduced, and that a local social life can be maintained for all ages.

Steps to get it done:

  • Rerouting surface water
  • Installing sewage treatment plant
