We endevour to organise the first Berkshire outdoor Mela at Palmer Park, Reading on the 10th August 2019. A Mela meaning ‘festival’ beautifully describes an exciting, colorful Summer outdoor event with an emphasis on various cultural and artistic programmes. The Mela will consist of diverse music and food from different parts of the world, and also provide an opportunity for both voluntary and statutory agencies to promote and raise awareness of the work they do within the County of Berkshire. I believe that Mela’s are a great opportunity for the whole community irrespective of ethnic background and faith, in order to celebrate the diversity that Berkshire offers with a sense of ownership. This also provides a crucial link with the community and offer organisations a valuable opportunity to target a captive audience. We intend to provide exceptional entertainment on the day with international , national artists and providing a platform to promote local talent.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The Berkshire Mela will be the first outdoor Mela covering the entire County, focusing on Berkshires diversity and thus providing a platform for all nationalities to integrate in a large community event. Berkshire Mela will complement all other art events in Reading and surrounding areas, therefore reaching out to a vast number of people. As the Berkshires Mela will take place in August, we believe this will be an extended programme of free, accessible community events in the County during the summer. By presenting a high-quality, engaging and respectful event strongly supports all stakeholder's aims of increasing social cohesion through animating public spaces and establishing Palmer Parks' as a neutral community asset in the heart of Reading, Berkshire.
