Senior Management at Sefton Council's Green Sefton, the landowner, has agreed in principle to the progression of this project. Whilst the location is not on the proposed route of a new road, Sefton Council are unable to give assurances that it would be protected from such a scheme. Therefore, if successful, this project would go ahead with the attached risk that it could be disrupted in future. Rimrose Valley friends wish to create a giant wildflower meadow to improve and enhance what is currently a grassed section of land and to turn this into a spectacle for all to enjoy. Wildflowers attract pollenating bees and other insects such as butterflies and moths which are a vital part of biodiversity. The creation of a large, wildflower meadow will play a huge part in addressing the mass extinction of vital insects at a local level and also form part of a wider movement to protect and enhance green spaces across the Liverpool region. We hope you will support us in our goal!

What we'll deliver:

  • A stunning wildflower meadow
  • A new habitat for bees and other insects
  • A new environmental 'attraction' for people to experience and enjoy
  • A long-lasting environmental legacy for the people of South Sefton and beyond

Why it's a great idea:

Access to green space, specifically wild green space is a challenge for many people in our area. This project will provide access to countryside and flowers which would otherwise not be experienced without the need to travel by car. We want to create a haven for people to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life as well as educating people on the important role of bees and other insects in our ecosystem. This project would enhance a section of the park which is currently grassland and bring even greater exposure to countryside in what is a heavily urbanised and polluted part of Sefton. Rimrose Valley is already used by countless people on a daily basis: dog walkers, runners, cyclists, photographers, naturalists, whole families, with children and commuters using it as a route to and from school and places of work. Many people would experience this meadow and we hope that it would attract people from all of the communities which surround the country park and beyond.

Steps to get it done:

  • Prepare the ground - May 2019
  • Purchase bulbs / seeds - May 2019
  • Carry out planting and sowing - May 2019
  • Official 'opening' of wildflower meadow - Sept 2019
