To help make Barnet even better for those who live, work and study here.
Our Media Club project is a practical and fun TV skills training programme designed for young people aged between 9 and 15 who are interested in a career in TV or just want to participate in an after school or holiday activity. It will culminate in an exciting showcase community event for Barnet (when safe to do so). The programme will be offered free of charge and can be delivered online or face to face and the workshops will cover an overview of the TV industry, roles & responsibilities in production (producer, presenter, camera operator, video editor content development & planning and practical skills in the roles. The programme also has a practical element that provides participants with the opportunity to create content individually or as a group for an awards ceremony. Through the programme, participants will improve the interpersonal & team skills by meeting, interacting and working together as well as gain complementary and valuable skills and experience
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
It will give young people the opportunity to learn about the TV industry and develop skills that can either help them kick start their career in the industry or complement other skill sets required for their personal development. They will learn about creating content on violence, crime, exploitation and anti-social behaviour targeted at their peers. We also aim to get sponsorship for the productions which will mean they will get paid through our Pocket Money Club Project. The interactive and practical project driven structure of the club will also act as a platform for keeping them engaged, learn and work more within a team structure enabling better social and community interaction and engagement. We hope to use this platform to encourage peer to peer mentoring as well as encourage healthy living. Through its projects, the club will also be able to gain and share insights about young people in the borough and what really matters to them.
Steps to get it done:
There will be a "Special Thanks" page in the Barnet TV Media Club workbook for those who help in funding its development. We also plan to recruit and train Media Club Managers to help run the club and this we hope will help the people of Barnet into work and employment.
