Thanks to the riots of August 2011 the world tends to think negatively of Tottenham. We will work with young people of the area to show a brighter side, and to enhance their pride in their community. With our help, they will photograph and interview individuals and organisations who contribute time and energy to offering a service to local people. They will be telling the good news stories, in other words!
Often the 'unsung heroes' earn little, but contribute much to community cohesion and to improving the quality of life or long-term prospects of local residents. This well-designed attractive product will have an everyday practical function and funds raised will be reinvested into the community groups profiled and help them to continue with what they do.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
It is a simple idea. The most important feature - the unique selling point - is that the Ashes to Assets calendar highlights the contributions of the small groups that make the big difference.
Production values will be high, and young people will be involved every step of the way, giving them valuable experience in writing, photography and design.
Profits, which we estimate will be between £2,000 and £3,000, will be reinvested into community groups and we will invite them, the local schools and traders, to help us get this calendar on the wall of every home in Tottenham – and beyond!
