Sharon Longshaw By Sharon Longshaw

This Summer we will be touring rural villages with an interactive Arts and Music project. Our main focus are villages that have their village hall or public house so have no community social hub.

Rural communities are becoming more and more isolated, lack of Services, Post Office closures and the disappearance of the Village Pub has led to a sharp rise in depression, with 1 in 4 people now experiencing mental health difficulties. We need to do more to bring back some cohesion to these communities, studies show that art and music lift the mood, are a great form of expression and helps to combat depression. Music and Art is a universal language that breaks down barriers, starts conversations and brings together people from all walks of life, so we have put together a Rural Tour that will deliver activities designed specifically to engage as many people as possible in a fun, light hearted way but with a serious message about what can be achieved by supporting each other, working together and in being a strong community.

What we'll deliver:

  • Murals
  • Largescale Artworks
  • Storytelling
  • Live Music
  • Ukulele Lessons

Why it's a great idea:

Art ~ Led by our two Artists members of the community with be invited to create a Mural or a largescale painting that can be displayed publicly. The Village Band ~ We believe that every Village has talent, we will be putting that belief to the test by putting out a call for local musicians to join us in forming a band that will have just 48hrs to pull together a tight set that they will perform on the main stage for the rest of the village. Storytelling ~ Not at all a case of, Are you sitting comfortably? Our storyteller has a chest full of props and a box full of percussion instruments that are distributed among the audience who play a part in bringing the tales to life. Village Ukulele Orchestra ~ Two teachers, 150 ukuleles, many sore fingers. Even if our participants have never held a Uke before, our teachers will take them from novice to Main Stage Superstar in a little over 2 days with our most popular activity. Our tried and tested method brings together people from 5 to 105
