Age Cymru provides a HandyVan service across Cardiff and Penarth. The service was established in November 2013. Within its first year we have;

• made 732 home visits
• completed 228 home fire safety checks, including installing 267 smoke alarms and 147 carbon monoxide alarms
• completed 191 home energy checks including installing energy saving items such as draft proofing, remote control plug sockets and radiator foil
• changed or installed 304 light bulbs
• installed 46 door chains or alarms
• installed 37 grab rails

We also carry out small repairs and odd jobs including curtain rails and garden fencing. We provide fall prevention and home security evaluations.

The service is specially tailored for the over 50s and you must live in Cardiff or Penarth. Some of the services we provide are chargeable.

What we'll deliver:

• We currently only have 1 Handyperson and are looking for funding for a second
• We are looking to visit more vulnerable people over the age of 50 who are in desperate need of our help.

Why it's a great idea:

Our service has been running since November 2013 and we have made 732 home visits in the first 12 months. From the feedback we have received the service has improved the well-being of so many older people across Cardiff and Penarth.

This also then has a knock on effect on the rest of the community with less people being admitted into hospitals for trips, slips and falls etc
