I would like to set up a community project to deliver physical activity to children in the school holidays. I work as a PE specialist in an area of severe economic deprivation, where the average household income is lower than the national average. Life expectancy in this area is 10 years lower than the national average due to poor health and low engagement of adults physical activity. I work with many children who learn from their parents and don't have the role models available or the opportunities to be active. Many don't have gardens available to them and the low income of their families mean they don't get the same opportunities to engage in physical activity. I want to set up a project to deliver physical activity, sport, gymnastics and dance to children in Gosport so that they can remain active and healthy in the school holidays. The funding is necessary to employ staff and provide free spaces to children to attend the clubs.

What we'll deliver:

• Buy sports equipment
• Employ staff to run the holiday clubs
• Produce marketting material to promote to children

Why it's a great idea:

The future health of this area specifically involves changing the pattern of low engagement in physical activity from generation to generation who have all learnt to follow the same unhealthy lifestyle. This project could impact upon attitudes and habitual behaviours that could improve the life chances of the children.
