This project was funded on 28 Apr 2023!

Getting people more active as a community, by providing sports equipment as a library set up, so that people can access it when needed. Imagine you want to go and play football with your kids but you dont have a ball, the nearest sports shop is too far away from Dunsop Bridge to just nip and get one. Or a group of friends want to play walking football, or ultimate frisby maybe a spot of cricket, it becomes so much easier if the equipment is waiting there on the playing field. I want to remove this barrier and with it have knock on effects to removing other barriers allowing a small group to set up a weekly meet up, or a family to have a small active birthday party or the all community to have a social sports day. Many barriers would be overcome and opportunities built

What we'll deliver:

  • A storage shed for the equipment
  • Football nets and balls
  • Cricket set
  • Orienteering kit
  • multi use play equipment
  • litterpicking equipment

Why it's a great idea:

Health, activity and social. You could call it a community, tribe.... and what binds many of these through the ages is play! Whether through organised sport or a freedom to explore. Imagine turning up to the local playing field and thinking "I wouldnt mind a kick around" and being able to get a ball out start having a kick around, straight away your friends meet you, some more people join in and before you know it every saturday morning a group of men, women, children turn up some playing football others playing tag; you have a active community. This creates a healthier, happier more active community, by creating the easy access to many of the things that people may want to do together. There are many more benefits to the individual of bening more active, what our project brings is the ability to access ways of becoming more active. This would of course be the beginning of a library that could be added to and developed.

Steps to get it done:

  • buying the shed
  • buying the equipment
  • opening day event
  • 1 year of monthly social events
