There is limited access to individual school-based technology for learning. Providing iPads and the appropriate software will enhance their technology skills in tandem with core subjects such as maths and English. iPads and tablets facilitate learning in a host of different ways courtesy of interactive apps that allow instant input and feedback. This enables teachers to support traditional learning with apps that further instill numeracy and literacy skills through gamified education. Upton Heath CoE Primary PTA is a separate organisation from the school. As a registered Charity we have agreed to work with the school to look to raise funds for the shortfall in purchasing these essential items. As a large school of c400 children, the children would benefit from these early learning years of technology-based learning in tandem with traditional methods to prepare them for further technology learning as their education journey progresses.

What we'll deliver:

  • Donate raised funds to school
  • School will purchase all iPads and appropriate software

Why it's a great idea:

As a school of c400 children, a large proportion of Upton and the surrounding Chester areas benefit from the school, including serving military families based in Upton, Chester. Having access to technology from the start of education allows a fair start for all. Learning about how to use technology, safe online access, and core academic subjects. This will promote a more rounded knowledge base and confidence by ensuring all children have access to these resources. The school already benefits from enhanced learning in science and technology with the benefit of a science and computer room, as well as woodwork and cookery. Having access to ipads and appropriate technology within their classrooms will build the right core skills in preparation for KS2 and beyond.

Steps to get it done:

  • Secure funding
  • Transfer funds to Upton Heath CofE Primary
  • CofE Primary will purchase iPads and associated software to benefit from schools discount
  • iPads will be available for learning within class

Upton Heath is part of The Samara Trust and has a rolling programme of replacement equipment, implemented during the summer term of each year. The PTA (as a separate charity) would like to fund the ipads needs now. The KS1 lead runs an after school club called 'iPad club' which is a no charge club for KS1. These additional iPads would also offer the potential to extend these clubs to more children.
