Soup4Lunch is celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2019. We are having a party and garden open day to invite family, friends & local community. The day will be a showcase for our great volunteers.
The S4L Anniversary Garden Open Day at Michael Stewart House will be a great celebration for our participants, our supporters, sheltered housing residents and the local community close to North End Road and the Clem Attlee Estate. In the early months of 2019 we will add a kitchen garden to the already established space at Michael Stewart House and open to the local community for a day in April 2019 for garden 'tasters' and provide international food and information from local organisations who join us in tackling isolation and loneliness. Soup4Lunch Ltd is a local social enterprise creating Kitchen Gardens and Community Cafes in sheltered housing and community centres in Hammersmith and Fulham. Our main aim is to provide a safe space to join together to help lessen isolation and loneliness. The kitchen garden provides activity and common language and the community cafe provides great food and conversation as well as good nourishment.

Soup4Lunch is going to shout about it’s five year anniversary! Hundreds of people in Hammersmith and Fulham have contributed to creating the Soup4Lunch project, from a simple pilot in December 2012 to more than a dozen projects running today on a weekly basis. We want to celebrate our success, show off our work, make some outrageously great food and recognise all the wonderful people who have helped us make this such a brilliant project. Our open day will celebrate all the best and demonstrate this amazing resource to the community.

We hope that by opening up our garden we will encourage more community involvement and volunteering, a greater awareness of how isolation and loneliness can have an impact on lives, and how that can be turned around by working together and having shared experiences.

About the space
Michael Stewart House Garden in sheltered housing on Clem Atlee Estate. This is an area just off the North End Rd which has a garden backing onto a walkway so it provides good view for community passer safe by. The area has recently been the subject of renewal and has a quarterly market festival.

VolunteerThe Courtyard Garden Team is part of the Mental Health A&E Team Big Room led by A&E Mental Health Lead Barbara Cleaver and made up of doctors, nurses, other practitioners, admin and reception staff, building and works, security, and police liaison. This unique and dynamic team is supported throughout the hospital and by the Imperial Health Charity.
We are setting up a community partnership between the Big Room Team, Soup4Lunch Ltd, HCGA, local firm Assael Architecture and more, to realise the Courtyard Garden. First we will set up a PopUp to give us a good idea of how to use the space while we are waiting for the design and building teams to complete the plans. We can then start fundraising for the permanent space.
The Big Room Team will play a large part in helping the community team to create the space. Then designers Assael Architecture will use their Mental Health and Well Being expertise in exterior environments to give the space a wholistic atmosphere. Ben Chandon, Assael's Head of Well Being wrote the book Happy by Design.
Our Head Gardener and Operations Manager will be Vanessa Hodder from Hammersmith Community Garden Association and the Get Out There Team.
Project Owner: Soup4Lunch Ltd The Project Owner takes legal responsibility for receiving and spending the funds raised and ensuring the project is delivered.
