Run a community bike workshop for the community. Where you can learn about bike maintenance and repair your own bikes. Organise bike expeditions and bike trips. Arranged trips this will range from south downs to coastal paths. Teach 1:1 cycle safety on road training by a bikeability instructor. Working towards an in house certificate for bike maintenance this involves 3 levels where the student will receive reading material and practical sessions. At the end of the course they will be able to service their own bikes and understand the working parts of a bicycle. Learn to ride lessons for groups or individuals. we have specialised balance bikes for this and qualified instructors for the guaranteed conclusion. Specialised workshops for any individual that has a learning barrier. Inter-generational projects this is where we bring the youth and the retired generation together to work on projects together relating to education and cycling.

What we'll deliver:

  • To run an open workshop once a week where you can learn to fix your bike.
  • To do 1:1 cycle road safety course once a week
  • To arrange and manage a bicycle expedition once a month
  • To continue working towards gaining a recognised in house training course on bike maintenance.
  • Learn to ride lessons in a group or individually

Why it's a great idea:

This project will help the wider community in many ways. Well-being; Any physical exercise on a regular basis has been proven to improve the mental health and physical health of a n individual. Environment; As a society we are encouraged to reduce our carbon footprint, as a bicycle charity we want to encourage this and embrace this concept. We do this by introducing cycling to every one making cycling affordable and training people how to look after their mode of transport. Preventing isolation; We encourage and organise events with in a group and purposely encourage team building exercises, and building of new friendships. Education; The maintenance courses are designed at different levels and we focus on anyone that has learning barriers we encourage the in-house certificated courses. Recycling; Most bikes that come to the workshop will either be repaired and put back into order or will be stripped and the parts will be used on other bikes.

Steps to get it done:

  • To promote day trips and expeditions for this we require a minibus and to meet the running costs of a minibus.
  • Our training manuals need to be designed and printed we will require stationary equipment to produce the manuals.
  • To finance another workstation to effectively meet the demands of the community we require bike rack and tools.
