Renovate Scout kitchen facilities

22nd Wimbledon Scout Group By 22nd Wimbledon Scout Group

We would like to raise funds to completely renovate our kitchen facilities to stainless steel units to make it more hygienic and easier to keep clean.

We are currently using a kitchen which was installed when the Scout Headquarters was built over 40 years ago. It fails to meet current gas regulations and doesn't meet requirements for a commercial kitchen facility. We would like to gut the current kitchen and replace the units and worktops with stainless steel, replace the flooring with non slip vinyl and the wall coverings with easy to keep clean wall cladding. We would also like to install an under-counter fridge and freezer to maximise the worktop available. We will also install an auto cut off unit for the gas cooker and a fire shutter to make the facility much more inviting for all hall users.

What we'll deliver:

  • Remove existing kitchen
  • Install new kitchen units, sinks, wall covering and flooring
  • Install new gas shut-off and fire shutter
  • Purchase new appliances for kitchen
  • Professionally clean existing extraction unit

Why it's a great idea:

Having an up to date kitchen will appeal to all hall users which range from childrens parties to multi-faith groups, toddler groups and the elderly. Existing hall users are put off from using the kitchen as the facilities are not modern and are difficult to keep clean. The kitchen will also be used by the Scout Group for teaching the young people new life skills by showing them how to behave safely in a kitchen and to teach them how to cook different things which they all love. We will also be able to use the kitchen for sleepovers at the headquarters which will help to develop self esteem and confidence.

Steps to get it done:

We have recently fundraised over £50,000 to renovate the toilet facilities at the headquarters and would like to also complete the kitchen project to bring the kitchen up to the same high standards to make the headquarters a place that outside users would like to use.
