An Intergenerational Reminiscence Project where Volunteers decorate and curate a disused Shipping container turning it into a Vintage 1960s Caribbean Living Room for Elders and Community to enjoy!
Shepherds Bush Market has recently acquired some fabulous shipping containers in the Space called the Old Laundry Yard. This space could potentially be an amazing place to enjoy the Summer with open air pallets, umbrellas and food carts. We would like to add some fun, colour and culture to the area by creating a space where Young Volunteers and Elders from the Borough can both come together, enjoy some good old fashioned 1960s vibes whilst sharing stories, playing music, doing workshops and exchanging ideas.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
It's a great opportunity to bring together two generations in one big creative project that benefits the whole community. Revamping one of the unused containers will create a Summertime Sixties haven, a quirky home from home that will trigger memories in the Elders and be fun and educational for the Young people who engage with it. The exhibition will not be about making money, moreover a space to learn about our history and the Elders around us as well as understand our Identity and role within ur community.
Steps to get it done:
The Exhibition will be educational as there will be interesting artefacts to be researched and these artefacts can be tangible and audio described which would allow access for the visually impaired.

Brilliant news, thanks everyone!
Never a dull moment searching Ebay, Amazon and Vintage shops for museum artefacts. So much fun to be had. Latest find was the Hanwell and Ealing Heritage Museum in the basement of Hanwell Community Centre. It's run by pensioner David Blackwell and is well worth a visit as he has stuff from 1940s through to the 1990s. Check out what else I found when we launch next week.
Whoop, 10 people have pledged since fundraising began!
We had an amazing fundraiser at the Imperial College Invention Rooms where we trialled some of our music and games and met some of the Community Elders. Lots of joy was spread that day and several people agreed to make a donation when they got back home. We only have 5 more days so please click on the link and help us by doing the same so we can get to our target and run this great event throughout June.
