‘175’ is a 20-minute drama film. It will be filmed in Kent and near Canterbury in late March 2023. The Story: The film focuses on the life of a couple, Juliet and Ruth who are in their early 60s. They are waiting for the British Parliament to pass a bill to legalise same-sex marriage, so they can get married. But they are racing against time as Juliet suffers from a terminal illness and doesn't have long to live. We are a group of award-winning independent filmmakers with an established track record in the film industry. The core crew members have won several film awards. We are a diverse team from different backgrounds; we value our diversity, and we believe that is our key strength. We are thrilled to have some of the well-known talented British actors on board including Lizzy McInnerny and Francesca Zoutewelle. 175 is a film about love and mortality. It is intimate, personal, and poignant. We intend to submit the film to leading film festivals around the world.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
'175' has a strong sense of location. That is why Canterbury is the perfect place to make this film. That will also allow us to hire some of the film crew locally. Also, in terms if the wider benefits, this project will provide representation of a minority group. We will arrange a series of screenings nationwide to present the film to a wider audience across the country. It is important that we recognise the political will and many years of campaigning that made this dream a reality. That is why it is important that we recognise the importance of equal rights of the LGBT community in the UK and celebrate, promote, and protect it. By the time this film gets made and edited, it will be 10 years since the bill was passed by the parliament. So the timing couldn’t be better to get together, pick up a camera and get this film made.
Steps to get it done:
We have put together a short animation to tell the story of '175': https://vimeo.com/438858854 You can find out more about this project here: https://www.kasrakarimi.co.uk/films/175
