You will be helping to transform an empty warehouse in a deprived district of the city into a fully fit-for-purpose 'Programmable' Community Music Centre, Adaptive Music Technology training facility and flexible office space specifically for providing: • Interactive music workshops for people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), • 1-2-1 music-based mentoring sessions for disadvantaged young adults e.g, young people in “transition” from children's to adult services & people facing mental health issues, • CPD sessions for Practitioners, artists and SEND schools, • Volunteering, training and further opportunities for young people out of education to pursue a career path in Community Music. The funding will help to pay for building materials, acoustic soundproofing, specialist computer and Adaptive Music Technology equipment enabling us to deliver this work to the community of Peterborough. Your support will provide immersive positive creative activity for people

What we'll deliver:

  • Soundproofing and building materials
  • Specialist Adaptive Music Technology equipment
  • Professional Music Software
  • Provide immersive and creative musical activity for the community

Why it's a great idea:

In John Lennon's immortal words... "imagine" a space where anyone can create music... The newly developed Community Music Centre AKA "Chime 2.1" will be open for music-based interactive workshops, 1-2-1 music-based mentoring & tuition, skills sharing, volunteering, internships & training opportunities. The centre will also be the first in the region to be fully equipped with Adaptive Music Technology equipment & innovative software, breaking disabling barriers to help people that find it more of a challenge to participate in & make music. People using the centre will have the opportunity to: Form new meaningful relationships, Develop confidence & self esteem, Empower individuals to further themselves, Learn new transferable skills in music, digital arts, multimedia & ICT, Volunteer, Provide a way into further education & employment through accreditation in the Arts & work experience. Other uses: Unique performance space, interactive art installation & hackable music studio.

Steps to get it done:

Beat This has helped over 1,400 young people in Greater Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, working with over 45 community organisations and charities delivering unique hands-on music-based activities. We want to continue to develop the Centre so that we can provide the whole region with somewhere really amazing that people can access. The adaptive space will be designed as a programmable, hackable, immersive music studio. You can now make and affect music by simply moving around, interacting with objects and even each other. The details are complicated but infer-red cameras, advanced ipad use and music software, all have a part to play in making the magic happen! The experience will be immersive for the creators, a challenge for hackers / programmers and a must for makers interested in using a room to make music. We are confident the benefits of the Centre will be many; we now need our your support to make it happen! #musicforall #communitymusicpeterborough #chimever2.1
